2026 PMP Question Types Explained
The July 2026 Examination Content Outline lists eight scored item families. Generic quiz apps often cover only multiple-choice. The real exam does not.
By PrepFastPublished
PrepFast renders every type below in both Practice Mode and Full Exam Mode. If you have never practiced Point and Click or Pull-down List items, schedule dedicated drills before your exam date.
Multiple-Choice Single Response
One stem, four options, exactly one correct answer. Still the highest-volume format on the exam. PrepFast trains you to eliminate distractors using PMBOK-aligned logic, not pattern matching.
Multiple-Response Questions
Select two or more correct options. Partial credit does not exist. Every required choice must be right. Our simulator marks each option with its own rationale so you learn why a tempting wrong answer fails.
Case or Scenario
Section 1 opens with shared case studies: a stem stays on screen while you answer several linked questions. You cannot return to the case block after the section break. PrepFast mirrors that lock-in so your first run feels like test day.
Point and Click
Click a region on an image, chart, or diagram. Common on network diagrams, org charts, and schedule graphics. Touch-friendly on mobile. Practice until you can spot the right zone without guessing.
Matching
Pair items from two lists using drag-and-drop or click-to-match, depending on the interface. Tests whether you can connect tools, documents, and situations quickly under time pressure.
Enhanced Matching
A richer matching format with more pairs or nested relationships. Appears less often but can cost several minutes if you have never practiced it. Drill it in Practice Mode before Full Exam Mode.
